Buffalo Ridge Golf Course (formerly Branson Creek Golf Club) is located just 4 miles south of Branson, Missouri and just two miles from the Branson airport. The golf complex of two 18 hole courses (also formerly Murder Rock Golf Club) was purchased in 2013 by Johnny Morris, the founder of Bass Pro Shops and has undergone extensive redesign by Tom Fazio to take full advantage of the rolling, wooded hills of the Ozarks as well as the numerous natural and man-made water sources.
Buffalo Ridge Golf Course recently made national golf headlines when it was announced that the PGA Tour will sanction a new event to be held on the Buffalo Ridge Springs Course in early summer 2014. The Champions Tour’s newly-named Big Cedar Lodge Legends of Golf presented by Bass Pro Shops, a two-man team competition conducted over 54 holes, will be played June 2-8, 2014 on the Big Cedar Lodge resort’s Par-3 Top of the Rock course, designed by Jack Nicklaus and the 18-hole Buffalo Ridge Golf Course (formerly Branson Creek GC), freshly redesigned by Tom Fazio. The tournament, which debuted in 1978, was held in Savannah, Ga., the past 11 years. This will be the first PGA TOUR sanctioned event to visit the popular tourist destination of Branson and also the first event to use a Par-3 Course in official competition.
Buffalo Ridge Golf Course is aptly named as Morris plans to allow free range buffalo roam the course grounds to create a sort of game preserve type setting against the backdrop of the beautiful Ozark Hills surrounding the Branson, Missouri area. Buffalo Ridge Golf Course will boast 5 tee boxes playing 7,000 yards from the championship tees and coming in at a par of 71. The new Fazio re-design will deepen the bunkers and create a shot makers dream coming into the greens after relatively safe fairway landing areas. The Buffalo Ridge Golf Course will take advantage of natural rock formations and several elevation changes to add drama to the already beautiful layout. The facilities under the Branson Creek name were somewhat Spartan with the clubhouse being a renovated trailer and the cart barn made of a canvas tent, however big changes can be expected as Mr. Morris puts his personal touch on the Buffalo Ridge grounds. Johnny Morris is obviously famous for his over-the-top outdoor stores and his rustic decorative flair can be seen in all of his properties so we expect Buffalo Ridge Golf Course to be modeled in the same familiar style.
